For decades, Texas’ gambling opponents have demanded strict enforcement of the state’s gaming laws, prompting local prosecutors to crack down on the spread of slot machines known as eight-liners.
Now, a new generation of bell-ringing slots are popping up across Texas like bluebonnets in spring. You’ll find them in a small taco shop in Oak Cliff, a roadside game room east of Dallas and a sports bar near Mesquite. They go by names such as “Ultimate Fire Link,” “Fusion Lightning Edition” and “King Kong.
