Ocean Casino Resort plans to sue the city, alleging a botched response by the Fire Department to a small blaze made a pipe burst, resulting in $1.5 million worth of damage.

In a notice of claim filed with the city Oct. 13 and made public Monday when the City Council agenda was posted online, the casino accuses the Fire Department of “gross negligence, careless, and wanton and willful damages caused at Ocean Casino in response to a fire.”

The notice does not specify exactly how the Fire Department is alleged to have mishandled its response to the event, which caused the casino’s gambling operations to shut down for a day in July.
