Canada’s Supreme Court has expressed some reservations over Ontario’s international gaming system, which allows wagers by both residents and international users.

According to Courthouse News, a top justice agreed with an Atlantic Lottery Corporation attorney regarding how Ontario went about internationalizing its online gaming market, using a federal provision for provinces to regulate their own lotteries.

The Atlantic Lottery Corporation represents a group of Canadian lotteries and provinces which are against iGaming Ontario, saying the platform encroaches on their clients’ market.

In Canada, online gaming is only fully regulated in the provinces of Ontario – which launched in 2022 – and in Alberta – which launched this year.
