The opening of the Ho-Chunk Gaming Casino in Beloit could have housing implications well beyond Beloit itself.

The casino is expected to create approximately 1,500 permanent jobs, increasing housing demand across the Stateline, making communities like South Beloit a prime spot for growth.

Courtney Prentice, a South Beloit city commissioner and real estate appraiser, said growth tied to the casino is already reflected in the housing market.

“The trend for years has been Illinois people going to Wisconsin. We’re actually starting to see Wisconsin people come back to South Beloit because it’s much more affordable,” Prentice said.
