On Friday, Lumbee Tribal Chairman John Lowery certified the Lumbee Tribal Gaming Ordinance as affecting fundamental rights, marking a historic milestone for the Lumbee people.

Tribal Council Speaker Alex Baker and Vice Chairman Bobby Emanuel joined him to certify the legislation, which the Lumbee Tribal Council passed on Oct. 15.

“I want to thank the Lumbee Tribal Council for the hard work and dedication they put into this effort,” said Lowery. “Through their outreach sessions, they gave tribal citizens an opportunity to share their perspectives and have their voices heard. My hat is off to Speaker Baker, Vice Chairman Emanuel and the members of the Tribal Council for helping pave the way toward a better future for generations to come.”
