On Friday, members of the Lumbee Tribe approved a gaming ordinance that could pave the way for a casino along I-95.

According to a press release, council members approved the ordinance in a 14-2 vote. The ordinance could allow class III gaming, known as “casino-style” gambling, on Lumbee Tribe lands if the tribe and the state authorize it through a compact, which the tribe still needs to vote on.

The Lumbees have a proposed resort and development that includes two hotels, a museum and heritage center, a casino, a convention and entertainment center, condos and a golf course. Renderings of the proposed casino were released months earlier.
