New Jersey lawmakers are considering banning gambling ads from being placed in or near schools or colleges, and want to study the effect of certain words or phrases in gambling advertisements on bettors.
A state Assembly panel advanced a bill Thursday that would empower the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement to prohibit placement of gambling ads in or near schools or colleges, as well as in any media that prominently targets people under the legal gambling age of 21.
The bill would require the state to conduct a study of gambling advertisements to see how the choice of wording, placement in an advertisement and even typeface affect potential gamblers.
