The White Earth Nation is moving forward with plans for a potential casino development in Clay County, but tribal representatives say they are significantly reducing the amount of land they want placed into federal trust in response to concerns from local officials.
During the Clay County Commission meeting Tuesday, representatives of the White Earth Nation provided an update on the proposed casino project, outlining the federal approval process, preliminary development plans and efforts to establish a cooperative agreement with local governments.
The tribe is now pursuing an 80-acre trust application rather than seeking federal trust status for the entire approximately 297-acre property.
