Online casino expansion is still a hard sell in many statehouses. Lawmakers from Massachusetts, Ohio, and Virginia say concerns about retail casino revenue, consumer protections, and each state’s unique market continue to slow momentum.
Supporters often point to New Jersey as proof that online and in-person gaming can grow together. But lawmakers speaking on a recent industry panel said that example does not erase the political and policy hurdles facing online casino bills elsewhere.
According to Deadspin, the panel included Ohio Rep. Brian Stewart, Virginia Sen. Jeremy McPike, and Massachusetts Rep. David Muradian. Their discussion centered on why legal online casino legislation remains more limited than online sports betting across the US.
