The threat by the owners of the Sheraton Atlantic City Convention Center Hotel to close in December has already cost the city $147 million in lost convention and meetings business, the man tasked with growing the city’s tourism market said Thursday.

Gary Musich, president and CEO of Visit Atlantic City, told a panel on how Atlantic City’s economy fared over the summer that the threat by LINY Investor LLC to close the 502-room hotel is already hurting business in the critical meeting and convention industries.

“We have lost $147 million already in business just since this was announced” in mid-September, Musich told the Jersey Shoreview forum at Stockton University.
