The Atlantic City Convention Center and an adjacent hotel at risk of closing in December need help from the state, not competition that could put them out of business, Atlantic County Executive Dennis Levinson told Gov. Mikie Sherrill.
In a letter Tuesday, the Republican county executive told the Democratic governor that plans for a possible new convention center in the North Jersey Meadowlands would have a devastating effect on Atlantic City’s convention and meetings business, a crucial aspect of the city’s efforts to diversify its economy beyond gambling.
He said pursuing a new North Jersey convention center would “sabotage” the state’s existing investments in the convention industry in Atlantic City.
