A proposal to bring a nearly $1 billion casino resort to Jackson could hinge on its impact on other gaming destinations in the state.
Last week, Jackson City Council delayed a vote to give LeFleur Development LLC an option to purchase 93 acres along the Pearl River for a casino resort. Some council members did so, in part, after asking whether the state would allow the development.
Lt. Gov. Delbert Hosemann said Tuesday he would not back the project.
Jay McDaniel, executive director of the Mississippi Gaming Commission, said lawmakers will ultimately decide whether Jackson can have a casino. Even so, he said MGC would consider factors before signing off on plans, including its impact on other casinos in the Lower River Market, which includes casinos in Vicksburg, Natchez, and Greenville.
