Caesars Sportsbook is asking a federal judge to dismiss a lawsuit filed by the Cayuga Nation over mobile sports wagers allegedly placed from within the Nation’s reservation.
The Cayuga Nation sued Caesars in June, alleging the company accepted wagers from people physically located on tribal land between January 2022 and July 2025 without the Nation’s authorization or a gaming compact.
The Nation is seeking the return of revenue Caesars allegedly earned from those bets, along with lost profits and other damages.
The Cayuga Nation argues that sports betting is considered Class III gaming under federal law and generally cannot occur on tribal land without an agreement between the tribe and the state.
