The operators of the four Northwest Indiana casinos can count on another year with no competition from a permanent casino facility located in the city of Chicago.

Earlier this month, the Illinois General Assembly authorized the Illinois Gaming Board (IGB) to permit a Chicago casino to continue doing business in a temporary facility beyond the three-year deadline previously specified in state law.

While Senate Bill 3019 has not yet been signed by Democratic Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker, the governor-appointed gaming board nevertheless authorized IGB Administrator Marcus Fruchter on Thursday to give Bally’s Chicago another year to finish its permanent casino.

The pending extension sets Sept. 9, 2027, as the de facto deadline for completion of the Bally’s Chicago property currently under construction.
