The Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) has released initial guidance on restrictions preventing notable people from appearing in gambling advertisements, with the rules set to take effect on 1 January 2027.
The ban will cover advertising across television, radio, online news platforms, social media, and online games. Licensed interactive wagering service providers will also be prohibited from making agreements involving notable people to promote wagering services.
The ACMA clarified that the definition of a notable person includes current or former professional athletes, celebrities, social media influencers and prominent individuals, as well as any class of persons determined by the Minister for Communications.
