South Dakota gaming spend up 11 percent year-over-year in December

South Dakota has reported an 11.1 percent year-over-year increase in gaming spend from $107.4 million in December 2023 to $119.4 million in December 2024.

The South Dakota Department of Revenue reported that slot machines generated a spend of $111 million, rising by 13.2 percent from $98.1 million reported the previous year. Slot machines also reached more than $10 million in statistical wins last month, an increase of nearly $2 million compared to December 2023.

Commercial casino spend also seems to have increased monthly, with November figures reporting a combined handle of $104 million. From this, slot machines generated $96.6 million, a month-on-month decrease of 12.9 percent, and table games generated $6.9 million, a 4.6 percent decline compared to December 2024.

Statistical wins for table games and slot machines also decreased month-on-month, with table games declining by 15.9 percent and slot machines decreasing by more than 13 percent.
