HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) – Gambling revenue at the state’s casinos in October was up slightly over the same month last year, with most of the increase coming from play at table games, according to figures released Monday by gambling regulators.

Revenue from table games grew nearly 10 percent in October, the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board said. Not including the state’s newest casino, Lady Luck Casino Nemacolin, revenue from table games grew 9 percent at the 10 casinos that were open a year ago.

Overall, gambling revenue rose from $243.7 million to $249.5 million in October, a 2 percent increase. Not counting Lady Luck, revenue rose 1 percent.

October’s biggest revenue producers were Parx Casino, in suburban Philadelphia, and Sands Casino Resort, in Bethlehem, each passing $38 million.

October revenue from slot machine gambling was down 1 percent at the 10 casinos open a year ago.

Pennsylvania legalized slot machine gambling in 2004, and the first casino opened in 2006. Lawmakers approved table games at the casinos in 2010.

Pennsylvania has grown into the nation’s second-largest gambling market behind Las Vegas, but its casinos have been facing stiff competition from growing casino industries in Maryland, New York, Ohio and Delaware.
