A Las Vegas gamble accused of running an illegal bookmaking business has been indicted, according to the Nevada Gaming Control Board (NGCB).
William West Roberts, 57, was initially arrested in April after a multi-year investigation by the NGCB and the FBI identified him as accepting sports bet through a website based in Costa Rica.
Roberts was also indicted Tuesday on money-laundering charges. The NGCB said Roberts took bets and comingled funds with finances from a fitness center and a social media tip business called Wild Bill Consulting Inc.
Robert owned both businesses. The Las Vegas Review-Journal reported Roberts faces felony charges of operating a gaming establishment without a license, unlawful receipt of compensation for accepting bets or wagers without a required license, and attempting to launder money.
The indictment unsealed on Wednesday also includes a misdemeanor count of accepting unlawful wagers.
“The (NGCB) remains committed to protecting the integrity of Nevada’s gaming industry and will continue to aggressively investigate any activity that threatens the fairness and public confidence of regulated sports wagering,” the state agency said in a statement.
