Nevada’s sportsbooks capitalized on the World Cup and Vegas Golden Knights wagering in June, as prediction markets are starting to get phased out in the state.

After sports wagering volume was down nearly $250 million through May, with the consensus that prediction markets took a lot of the handle, the state bounced back in June with the help of the World Cup, Vegas Golden Knights playing in the Stanley Cup Final, and a strong NBA Final between the New York Knicks and San Antonio Spurs.

Nevada sportsbooks won $50.5 million, up 20% or $8.4 million compared to June 2025 on a hold percentage of 8.7% versus 8.5% last year, according to Shelley Newell, senior economic analyst for the Nevada Gaming Control Board.

Sportsbook wagers totaled $578.6 million, up 16.5% or $81.9 million compared to last June when $496.6 million was wagered statewide. Mobile wagers totaled $416 million, up 15.6% or $56 million, and accounted for 71.9% of all wagers, Newell said.

Late Friday, the Nevada Gaming Control Board announced it had an agreement with prediction market operator Kalshi to stop accepting wagers in the state by Aug. 12 or risk a $120,000-a-day penalty.

Joe Asher, the CEO of Boomer’s Sportsbook, called June “a trifecta” of sports action with the once-every-four-years World Cup for the first time in the U.S. since 1994. The Golden Knights’s deep playoff run and two popular teams playing for an NBA title completed the triple header.

“It was a good month for sure,” Asher said. “The World Cup proved to be very popular. It just grew and grew. So many good games generated a lot of enthusiasm. The run that Mexico made, coupled with the U.S., really drove a lot of interest in Las Vegas, in particular. The amount of betting on Mexico was significant throughout the tournament. It wasn’t so good for the books when they were winning and they finally got beat and that turned out to be a good result.”

The World Cup had a lot of draws after 90 minutes, which Asher said tend to be favorable toward the house, since people like to bet one team or the other. Some big upsets and good storylines contributed to the wagering as well, he said.

Asher applauded the news about Kalshi and Nevada’s efforts to stop them with geofencing after telling the Gaming Control Board earlier this month that people were still betting in the state on their app despite a court order. “Better late than never and it took a contempt motion to finally convince them to do what they should have done originally.”

The positive sportsbook news came Tuesday as Boomer’s Sportsbook expanded its operation at Baldini’s Sports Casino in Sparks and Caesars Sportsbook partnered with the Westgate SuperBook. The iconic sports betting property now has 20 betting kiosks for the first time and will be increasing by another six. The Westgate made the move to bring in newer technology and expand offerings. The first bet was placed over the counter. It was a $22 four-leg MLB Parlay (+704) combining money lines on the Reds, Rays, Tigers, and Cubs.

“The SuperBook has been one of the defining sportsbook destinations in Las Vegas for decades,” said Eric Hession, president of Caesars Digital. “As sports fans prepare for football season, we’re enhancing its offerings with more ways to wager, more convenience and more flexibility while preserving everything that has made it special. The SuperBook has a tremendous history, and our goal is to build on that legacy while delivering the modern betting experience expected by today’s sports bettors.”

Long recognized as one of the preeminent sportsbook destinations in Las Vegas, the SuperBook and its Westgate Las Vegas SuperContest franchise is continuing under the partnership. Entries are now open for SuperContest, SuperContest Gold, SuperContest Survivor and SuperContest College for the 2026 season.

“Our guests visit the SuperBook for the atmosphere, the viewing experience and the energy that simply can’t be replicated,” said Cami Christensen, president and general manager of Westgate Las Vegas Resort & Casino. “This milestone with Caesars makes it easier than ever to engage with the action while enjoying everything that has made the SuperBook a destination for sports fans.”

In addition to the SuperBook’s contests, Caesars is introducing new ways for fans to engage throughout football season, including the Pro Pick’em Contest and Nevada-exclusive $1 million parlay cash giveaway.
