MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) – VictoryLand owner Milton McGregor says he plans to reopen the casino’s shuttered gambling operations on Sept. 13.
McGregor announced the reopening date for electronic bingo operations despite the Alabama Supreme Court repeatedly ruling such games are illegal.
McGregor said the Macon County sheriff and district attorney have assured him that the games are legal. He said the casino will offer 500 bingo terminals.
The state in 2013 seized more than a thousand of the slot-like gambling machines during a raid at VictoryLand.
The Alabama Supreme Court in March ruled the machines were illegal and not what was intended by state laws allowing card and paper type bingo games.
McGregor quickly vowed to reopen the casino that he said was illegally closed.
He said the casino will hire 200 people.
