An extra weekend day in July helped boost Kentucky’s take from historical horse racing machines (HHR). Receipts rose eight percent on a same-store basis, 9.7 percent when Churchill Downs’s Marshall Yards facility was included.
Two mammoth casinos led the Bluegrass State in both gross and per-machine average. Derby City, home to 1,243 HHR, took in $18.7 million or $486 per device. That was a 1.5 percent improvement on July 2025. Derby City was closely rivaled by the Oak Grove casino, which hosts 1,223 machines. It grossed $16 million, a 5.9 percent uptick. The per-slot average was $421 apiece.
Marshall Yards, opened in February, brought up the rear with $1.5 million. Its 223 HHR averaged $216 per day.
The lowest per-machine average came from Derby City Downtown in Louisville. Its 426 machines did $128 per day. However, its $1.7 million gross was a 16-point improvement.
Turfway Park rose 8.3 percent to $6.7 million. Its 782 machines averaged $278 apiece.
At Owensboro, 588 slots did $5 million. That was a 5.6 percent hop and a per-terminal average of $273 each.
Newport’s HHR parlor grossed $3.3 million, up 3.9 percent. It averaged $239 a terminal over its 450 devices.
Ellis Park saw $2.5 million in revenue, jumping 13.3 percent. Its 296 slots made $270 apiece on average.
