Kentucky HHR business surges in May

Gambling machines in Kentucky saw a 9.2 percent revenue increase in May on a same-store basis. That comparison excluded Churchill Downs’s Marshall Yards racino, which opened on February 25.

The Bluegrass State’s largest gambling venue, Derby City, led in grosses with $20.5 million. Its 1,248 historical racing machines (HHR) averaged $529 apiece, a 3.2 percent increase from May 2025.

The second-largest racino, Oak Grove, ticked up 1.1 percent to $16.5 million. It averaged $446 per terminal from its 1,190 machines. Turfway Park grossed $7.4 million, a nine percent leap. Its 783 slot averaged $304 per device.

Everpass

A dramatic increase was at Newport, where revenues jumped 10.5 percent. Its 453 terminals averaged $253 per day.

Ellis Park racino was up 5.2 percent to $2.3 million, as its 283 slots averaged $226 apiece. The second-lowest-grossing casino was Churchill Downs’s Derby City Downtown, which managed $1.7 million or 4.7 percent more. It averaged $127 on its 435 devices.

The largest single revenue vault in the state occurred at Owensboro, where revenues were up 12.7 percent. The 591 HHR did an average of $272 daily.

Marshall Yards had the lowest gross in the state at $1.6 million. It averaged $225 per slot per day on its 223 machines.
