PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) – The Rhode Island Ethics Commission has OK’d a plan by the governor’s chief of staff to isolate himself from any work involving the state’s rules for online daily fantasy sports betting because his wife works for the industry.
The Providence Journal reports (http://bit.ly/26tRtri ) that Stephen Neuman, chief of staff to Democratic Gov. Gina Raimondo, says he immediately withdrew from discussions about regulations or proposed legislation affecting the fast-growing industry as his wife was taking a job for Boston-based DraftKings.
She was hired in February as the company’s vice president for regulatory affairs.
The commission ruled unanimously Tuesday that the recusal procedures Neuman submitted are reasonable and will avoid potential conflicts of interest.
State lawmakers are considering several pending bills to regulate daily fantasy sports betting.
