OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) – A detention hearing is set for an Oklahoma man accused of running an illegal gambling operation.

Prosecutors claim that Teddy Mitchell was the leader of the operation, which included his two adult sons. Prosecutors claim the men took part in a gambling ring that operated poker games, took sports wagers and laundered gambling proceeds.

Mitchell was arrested Friday and has a hearing set for Tuesday to determine whether he should be released from jail. He pleaded not guilty to the charges on Monday. His attorney says Mitchell was a professional gambler who was following the law.

Mitchell’s wife, Julie, was found beaten to death inside the couple’s home on Nov. 2, 2010. No one has been arrested and the indictment did not mention her death.
