SCHENECTADY, N.Y. (AP) – Gov. Andrew Cuomo says casinos coming to upstate New York mean jobs, tourism and a shot at economic revival.

Cuomo visited Schenectady and Sullivan counties on Thursday, a day after a state panel picked those two counties to host casinos.

Weather forced Cuomo to skip Seneca County, which was also selected for a Las Vegas-style gambling facility.

In Schenectady, Cuomo praised plans for the Rivers Casino & Resort at Mohawk Harbor, saying it will transform blighted riverfront land while reinvigorating the once mighty manufacturing city.

The state also picked The Montreign Resort Casino in Sullivan County in the Catskills and Lago Resort & Casino in the Finger Lakes town of Tyre in Seneca County.

Developers hope to break ground as early as next year after the licenses are formally awarded.
