Workers who want smoking ended inside the city’s casinos called Wednesday on the Republican and Democratic nominees for governor to back a total smoking ban inside the gambling halls.
Casino Employees Against Smoking Effects wasted no time trying to enlist newly minted nominees Republican Jack Ciattarelli and Democrat Mikie Sherrill in their effort to support a smoking ban.
The incumbent governor, Democrat Phil Murphy, has promised for several years to sign a smoking ban into law once the Legislature approves such a bill, but has expended little political capital to make that happen.
“Congratulations to Mikie Sherrill and Jack Ciattarelli for their wins last night,” said Pete Naccarelli, a longtime table games dealer at Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa and a co-founder of the anti-smoking group.
