Franklin County has discussed the idea of converting Pasco’s HAPO Center into a tribal casino in partnership with the Yakama Nation, months after ending a 30-year partnership with the city to operate the facility.

County administrator Brian Dansel presented the idea to the Yakama Tribal council on Aug. 4, according to the Yakama Nation Review.

“Pasco is a prime location for a casino,” Dansel told tribal leaders, according to the newspaper owned by the tribe.

The presentation was only an initial opportunity for the tribal council to hear the county’s idea. The Yakama Nation has not announced a decision or agreement to pursue the project.
