Time is running out before the resort is forced to deal with competition from casinos in New York City, industry experts and elected officials said Wednesday.
Speaking at the East Coast Gaming Congress at Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Atlantic City, Jim Allen, chairman of the global Hard Rock brand, repeated a warning that has unsettled Atlantic City in recent years: New York casinos are coming, and that day is getting closer.
“I was here last year and I said, ‘New York is coming,’” Allen said.
Referring to the hit that Atlantic City took in the mid-2000s when casinos proliferated next door in Pennsylvania that resulted in five casinos shutting down, Allen said the resort cannot afford to allow that to recur.
