A casino in Reading could be forced to close its doors after the company announced it had launched a consultation over the future of the site.
Grosvenor Casino Reading Central generated an operating loss of £500,000 [$675K] in the last financial year, with further losses of £400,000 [$540K] forecast in the next year if it continues operating.
Employees received a letter on July 20 detailing the proposal by Rank Group, owner of Grosvenor Casinos, to close its Queens Street location. The closure could impact dozens of jobs, unless sister locations for employees are sought.
The letter, seen by Reading Chronicle, states that ‘significant and sustained financial challenges’ had been found when the company carried out a detailed review of performance of the casino.
