Two Elko casinos could close next month as their owner struggles through an ownership transition and a bankruptcy filing, according to two Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification notices.

WARN notices, which provide advance warnings of a large-scale layoff or closure, were filed with the Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation last week for the Maverick Casino Hotel and the Gold Country Inn and Casino, both in Elko.

Both properties are operated by Maverick Gaming and owned by Maverick NV LLC. According to the notices, both properties could potentially close Nov. 30 affecting 198 employees at the Maverick Casino Hotel and 41 at Gold Country.
