In the Republican primary race for Haywood’s N.C. House Representative, money speaks louder than the campaign materials it pays for.

In the final throes of the election, a flurry of flyers and commercials funded by an out-of-state PAC with ties to sports betting have emerged in favor of N.C. Rep. Mark Pless — though Pless says he didn’t ask for the help or even know about the PAC until the ads started showing up.

Pless, seeking his fourth-term, is facing a challenger from within his own party by Jimmy Rogers, a longtime Haywood school board member.

There have been four flyers to date and numerous TV commercials on WLOS with the disclaimer: paid for by the American Conservative Fund, a political action committee.
