The National Football League is upping its pushback against prediction market regulations, with a new letter raising concerns about the Commodity Futures Trading Commission’s proposed rules.
The league submitted its comments before the CFTC’s consultation period deadline, with the NFL Senior Vice President for Public Policy and Government Affairs, Brendon Plack, saying the proposals needed strengthening in several areas.
The NFL is pushing the CFTC to set a minimum age of 21 for trading sports event contracts – replacing the current 18-year minimum on platforms like Kalshi and Polymarket. The league also called for an outright ban on certain types of contracts, such as officials’ decisions, individual player performances and roster moves, saying such trades are open to manipulation.
