Plans to relocate SunRay Park and Casino from Farmington to Clovis have hit a legal hurdle following a decision by District Court Judge Daniel E. Ramczyk.
Last month, Ramczyk ruled in favor of San Juan County commissioners, stating the New Mexico Racing Commission exceeded its authority when it voted 3-0 earlier this year to approve a “relocation license” for Western Gaming LLC. San Juan County officials argued state law does not grant the three-member commission the legal right to relocate an existing racing license.
Despite the ruling, racino President Paul Blanchard said he intends to move forward with the project. Blanchard, who cited a 60% decline in revenue at the Farmington location in recent years, signaled plans to appeal.
