A Democratic candidate for Nevada governor is calling for higher taxes on casinos, arguing the state’s gaming industry should pay more.
Washoe County Commission Chair Alexis Hill, who is running for governor, said she does not want to raise taxes for everyday Nevadans. Instead, she believes Nevada casinos — which she said pay the lowest gaming tax rate in the country — should face a higher tax burden.
Hill’s main opponent in the Democratic primary is Attorney General Aaron Ford.
The winner of the primary will face incumbent Gov. Joe Lombardo in the general election.
