For years, Atlantic City casinos have dreaded the arrival of three new casinos in New York City, and the more distant possibility of two new ones in North Jersey.
Now, a business development group has put a number on just how bad the damage could be if those things happen.
The Atlantic County Economic Alliance, a nonprofit economic development corporation established in 2017 for business attraction, retention and marketing efforts in the county, released a report Tuesday outlining the potential damage from casino expansion, and other factors including the continued growth of internet gambling and stubborn inflation.
The group…said a “baseline scenario” of New York casino expansion and other factors could cost Atlantic City 5,100 casino jobs and nearly $815 million in lost revenue by 2035.
