Wednesday, the Gulf Coast lost a true pioneer— Karen Sock. She passed away at age 73.
The community leader, former casino executive and Sock Enterprises CEO left her mark not only on South Mississippi but far beyond.
If you were an eighth-grader in the past 13 years, chances are you experienced Pathways2Possibilities — or P2P — the interactive career exploration program Sock co-founded. It put career opportunities directly in students’ hands.
“We’re creating relevance between what they are learning in the classroom and what they want to do in the future and, hopefully, thwarting the dropout rate between eighth and ninth grades,” Sock once said about P2P.
