A recent White Earth Band of Ojibwe election has changed the dynamics of a proposed casino and entertainment complex in Moorhead.

Jacob McArthur, who trounced incumbent Michael LaRoque for the tribe’s secretary-treasurer post in an election last week, told The Forum he is opposed to the estimated $177 million project because of the questions he and White Earth members have about it.

McArthur said current leadership didn’t tell enrolled members about the plan, which he said carries risk to the band.

The secretary-treasurer is No. 2 in the tribe’s leadership behind Chairman Michael Fairbanks, who was not up for reelection. LaRoque was publicly supportive of the casino.
