MGM Springfield has started work repairing the facade and roof of 101 State St., calling it a multimillion-dollar investment accelerating the property’s transformation.
It is work that MGM hopes will help clear the way for its planned sale of MGM Springfield to Canadian company Clairvest.
But for the city of Springfield, it might be too little, too late.
Mayor Domenic J. Sarno has been after MGM to do something with the corner for years, complaining about unsightly concrete Jersey barriers and scaffolding in place for more than eight years on a corner he aims to revitalize… But MGM’s promises to date aren’t enough, according to the Sarno administration.
