Springfield officials have filed a lawsuit against MGM Resorts International and Blue Tarp Redevelopment.
The suit stems from what Springfield Mayor Domenic Sarno said has been “non-compliance issues with our Host Community Agreement (HCA). ” He added, despite nearly two years of negotiations, an agreement hasn’t been reached.
“Therefore in the best interests of the citizens of Springfield, I have directed our City Solicitor Stephen Buoniconti to commence legal action in hopes of resolving this very serious matter. The people of Springfield deserve nothing less,” Sarno explained in a statement.
Springfield City Solicitor Steve Buoniconti said the city entered into the agreement in 2013 as required by state law to operate a casino in Massachusetts.
