Raynham Park could be getting historic horse racing machines — which critics say are de facto slot machines — if the Massachusetts House version of an economic bill goes through. Critics say the legislation could devastate the Taunton casino, which is operated by the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe and which the city is hoping will generate funding in the form of a revenue share agreement.
Currently, the state House and Senate have passed different versions of the economic development bill. The Senate version does not address the horse racing machines at all, while the House version permits their use at Raynham Park, as well as Suffolk Downs, a historical race track located on the border of Boston and Revere.
