Kalshi has changed how it classifies itself to the United States Patent and Trademark Office, with the company’s latest batch of trademark requests avoiding language from earlier filings tying it to the gambling industry.
Late last year, the prediction market exchange operator informed the USPTO that its product involved “bookmaking services, namely, providing of information related to sports betting; organizing, arranging, conducting sports betting and gambling tournaments, competitions and contests. ”
That was despite Kalshi telling reporters, regulators and courts since its inception that it only offers a financial product and not a gambling service.
Kalshi adjusted its classification phrasing in a new series of applications for wordmarks such as Kalshi American Power Index and KPOW—the first requests it’s made since Sportico reported on the previous filings.
