It’s been more than 30 years since the first riverboat casino opened in Missouri. In 1992, the President Casino on the Admiral sat moored at the edge of the Gateway Arch lawn, on the Mississippi River. Upriver, on the Missouri River in St. Charles, just above where the Mississippi and Missouri merge, a second riverboat casino cruised for two hours at a time and offered dockside gambling in between.
Gamblers paid a cover fee to get in, and “boardings” were allowed every two hours in St. Louis. The boat was a fixture along the riverfront before it was shuttered in 2010 and sold for scrap.
