The first test for a new public-private partnership between the City of Rockford and Hard Rock Casino Rockford passed Monday night. At city council’s finance and personnel committee, members unanimously approved a $103 million bond for the casino’s planned expansion.

Hard Rock unveiled plans for a hotel and convention center May 7. The proposal includes between 215 and 225 hotel rooms as well as 15,000 square feet of conference space.

But to finance the project, the casino turns to the city for a line of credit.

“This is a good bet for the City of Rockford,” said Ald. Jonathan Logemann (D-2nd Ward). The finance and personnel vice chair supported the wager.
