The Illinois Gaming Board could get a new addition if a proposed bill in the Illinois House gains traction.
That proposal, House Bill 5742, would be an amendment to the Illinois Gambling Act and allow for the creation of a new position for a gaming oversight officer. The Illinois speaker of the House would appoint the position after consulting with the Black Legislative Caucus. The position would be responsible for collecting data, recommending changes to rules, laws and policy, coordinating efforts to regulate and tax gaming across the state, and promoting diversity practices in the gaming community.
The selected gaming oversight officer would also be allowed a staff, which would be funded by the state gaming board.
