Michael Rubin is coming for DraftKings and FanDuel.
The billionaire chief executive officer of Fanatics sees his company as having clear advantages in US sports gambling, and he intends to ratchet up that leverage.
One of the biggest edges Fanatics has is being a private entity competing against publicly held market leaders DraftKings and FanDuel, Rubin explained in a recent wide-ranging interview at the firm’s Manhattan office. That gives the company leeway to invest proceeds from its money-making units into an unprofitable business — which gambling is for Fanatics at this point — and focus more long term.
