The Michigan Democratic Party, which held its election night party at the MotorCity Casino-Hotel in Detroit in 2024 and 2018, won’t be having it there this time, the party confirmed.
One political source tells Deadline Detroit that a factor taken into consideration is gambling, which is a violation of Islamic law. U.S. Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed is Muslim.
Derrick Honeyman, a spokesman for the Michigan Democratic Party, tells Deadline Detroit the party is not being held this year at the MotorCity for a variety of reasons including pricing. The new location has yet to be announced.
When pressed about whether gambling and Islamic law was a factor, he didn’t comment.
