A class action lawsuit was filed today in Louisiana against sports betting companies, including FanDuel and DraftKings, alleging their apps are intentionally designed and marketed to induce and exploit addictive behavior.

The suit also names the two casino licensees, Amelia Belle Casino and Bally’s Baton Rouge, whose state licenses anchor the apps’ operation in Louisiana.

The plaintiffs, Adrian Payton, Toi Smith and Yolanda Perkins, are residents of New Orleans who have each wagered over $20,000 on one or both of the apps. They are suing on behalf of all Louisiana residents who have “created an account, deposited funds, and utilized the mobile sports wagering applications designed, manufactured, and operated by the Sportsbook Defendants under the regulatory authority of the Casino Anchor Defendants.”
