Breeze Airways is expanding to cover the routes that were eliminated at Atlantic City International Airport following the collapse of Spirit Airlines last month, U.S. Rep. Jeff Van Drew, R-2nd, said Thursday.
Spirit ceased operations May 2 after it failed to come to an agreement on a government bailout. The airline was a major commercial carrier at Atlantic City International. Spirit attributed the shutdown to recent increases in oil prices and other pressures.
Spirit began flights out of Atlantic City in June 1992 and connected the airport to destinations in Florida and Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
“Breeze Airways is stepping up to expand service in Atlantic City in a big way,” Van Drew said.
