Casino workers pushing for a smoking ban in the city’s gambling halls called Wednesday for a sick-out in August, with a goal of having 90% of workers stay home to show the industry what life would be like without its workers.
Shortly before Gov. Mikie Sherrill was to address the East Coast Gaming Congress at Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Atlantic City, dozens of casino workers protested outside on the Boardwalk, demanding the same smoke-free workplace that virtually all other New Jersey employees are entitled to.
Lamont White, a longtime dealer at Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa and one of the leaders of the anti-smoking movement, called on workers to pick a Tuesday in August and stay home from their jobs.
