New Jersey would increase penalties for people who trespass at casinos under a bill being considered by the state Legislature.
The bill sponsored by Sen. Vince Polistina, R-Atlantic, would make casino trespassing a fourth-degree crime, punishable by up to 18 months in jail, a fine of up to $10,000 or both.
The current penalty, for a disorderly persons offense, is 30 days in jail, a $500 fine or both.
“Atlantic City’s casinos are not just gaming floors: they are hotels, restaurants, entertainment venues, and workplaces that welcome millions of visitors and support thousands of jobs,” Polistina said in a statement.
